The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services is an agency of the State of Louisiana whose mission is to keep children safe, help individuals and families become self-sufficient and provide safe refuge during disasters. Among DCFS’ other responsibilities, the agency is charged with licensing and inspecting the state’s child care centers.

Quality Start is a voluntary program for licensed child care centers, designed to recognize, support and increase the quality of child care throughout Louisiana. Participating centers can earn up to five stars and can receive training and incentives to help increase their rating.
