Flood Victims: Pre-Register Before Going to a D-SNAP Site

PRE-REGISTERING WILL HELP SHORTEN LINES, SPEED ASSISTANCE PROCESS

BATON ROUGE -- Flood victims should pre-register before going to disaster food assistance sites to apply for aid.

Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) officials are urging those impacted by the floods to help speed the aid application process by pre-registering online at www.dcfs.la.gov/dsnap or calling the toll-free helpline at 1-888-LAHELP-U (1-888-524-3578), which is now open between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.

The Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) provides food assistance to eligible households who do not receive regular SNAP benefits and who need help buying groceries due to lost income or damages following a disaster.

Residents in 23 disaster parishes must apply this week for DSNAP at designated sites in each parish.

Each site will serve DSNAP applicants next week on a staggered schedule, according to the first letter of their last name. Find the schedule, location information and more at www.dcfs.la.gov.

Regular SNAP recipients do not need to apply for DSNAP and should not go to a DSNAP site.‎
